The third and final day in Vicksburg. Nice day although somewhat cloudy, but that was okay with me – better to shoot photos!
There was an opening ceremony for a newly restored bridge right by the hotel on Monday, and upon getting in the vehicle to set out for the days’ adventures on Tuesday I noticed a balloon that had somehow survived in the brush by the parking lot. It stayed there the whole time we were there, wind whipping it in and around all of the sharp branches, but it persevered and came out smelling, um, probably like a balloon. Anyway, I knew I had to capture it, but wanted to wait until it was not raining. I titled it “Survival”
Off to the second half of Battlefield Park and the USS Cairo museum again! I enjoyed the park and museum immensely and loved taking photos there.

I stepped through some woods and came across a really neat private cemetery. There are a lot of houses bordering the park. How awesome for them.

Made a trip into town after finishing up the battlegrounds. Went into a few quaint little shops and galleries and came across a Doll and Toy Museum. I hadn’t planned on taking any pictures in the museum, but the dolls were so pretty and creepy. I don’t know why dolls creep me out sometimes – I think it must be a holdover from Rod Serling’s “Night Gallery”.

I think I like taking photos in urban areas the best. Love architectural details and the unexpected things that you can find tucked away into corners. I also love taking pictures of the people, but I’m still a little weird on that one. It sort of feels like spying.

The sunset as seen from our balcony at the hotel was gorgeous over the river. It was sad to be leaving the next morning because I know there was so much that we didn’t get to see, but at the same time, it’s always nice to go home.
I took lots more photos, but I am sure by this time you are ready to move on to another awesome blog. If you are interested in seeing more, you can do so here. Thanks for stopping by and sharing my trip!
