Capturing Moments in Time

I believe that this is my new signature photo. Following up on the snowglobe idea from Christmastime, I had this photo of an hourglass sitting in my kitchen window and thought that the girl playing in the sand was a perfect fit!

We all take photos of things we love.  I love my breakfast.  I drink this almost every morning.  I love the flavor, the texture and the health benefits.  It’s a soy protein mix from EAS mixed with 1/2 cup of lowfat milk, a banana or half a banana, depending on how big the banana is, a spoonful of peanut butter and gobs of ice all blended up in my Ninja blender.  I have tried this with other fruits like strawberries, blueberries and blackberries, but this is my favorite.  I think it’s the peanut butter that gives it the creamy yet not foamy texture that I like.  Here is my breakfast all dressed up for Christmas to help get me in the Christmas spirit.  A green coke glass from McDonald’s, a cool plastic holiday straw from Dollar General (dishwasher safe so you can use them over and over!) and this really awesome template from the CoffeeShop blog (FREE!).

There is a current trend with portrait photographers that I really love.  I try not to get caught up in trends, but I find myself drawn to this one – it evokes a sense of magic and wonder.

This is the first one.  Kind of pretty

I like this one better - the colors seem to flow better with this image

If you would like to create your own snowglobe photos for fun or cards, you can download the templates for free or for as little as $1!  Danielle Daniels Photography offers a download of the template used in the first and second photos for free on her Facebook page Danielle Daniels Photography

The template in the last photo was created by Stacie Jensen at Rock My Edits and she is offering it for just $1!

I also used word art and elements from both Ashe Design and Jen’s Fabulous Designs

Now I just have to lasso my husband so we can get a photo for our card!

I have been having fun lately playing around with textures – I am finally comfortable enough in Photoshop to feel as if I halfway know what I’m doing!  I was happy with the way this composition came out.

Textures are by Jessica Drossin, Sarah Gardner, andInsight Designs.  WordArt is by Ashe Design.  Photo is by me.

I recently purchased a product tent from Cowboy Studio in the hopes of maybe doing some product photography in the future and was able to capture this while practicing.  I put the tent up in my workroom on a table in between two windows (to the left and behind) and put my softbox right up next to the tent.  Stuck a candle inside and put the black liner in over the candle, put the rose on top and this is the result!  I think I’m going to like this.

My husband bought this for me at an antique/junk store in Vicksburg – I just love looking at it.  I don’t think it works – I wouldn’t even know how to find out.

My very favorite photo from Whitney’s Senior Photo Session.  I am thinking of adding word art to the photo saying “Que Sera, Sera”.  It just seems to fit.

On Father’s Day I kidnapped my husband and took him on a scenic drive in the convertible.  We did the cookout thing the day before, so we had a free day and usually for him that means working in the shop.  Nope, not happening this day.  Life has been so busy lately that I felt we both needed a break from reality.

I didn’t tell him where we were going.  I had in mind to drive to Dauphin Island but as we neared Bayou La Batre I could see that his interest was piqued – he had never been there.  Yes, home of the character in one of his favorite movies and only 50 miles or so from our home – that tells you how little time he takes for fun and relaxation!  I myself had been through numerous times on the way to Dauphin Island and actually went for a job interview years ago at one of the boatyards there, but had never taken the scenic route – little winding roads just feet from all the interesting maritime businesses and from the Gulf.  We stopped at a launch site and got out to stretch our legs and enjoy the scenery.  Of course I had taken my camera :)

After our brief respite from reality, we headed back to the house refreshed.  Sometimes all it takes is a few short hours of escape.  This needs to become a regular thing, even if it does take 20 minutes to comb out my hair after the convertible ride.  How DO those women in the movies do it???

Chocolate Florals from Bellingrath Gardens

My sister and I took my mother to Bellingrath Gardens for Mother’s Day this year.  We do this every few years and it is always a pleasure.  They are always working on the gardens and there are always new things to see.  Unfortunately, my camera battery died halfway through the gardens – poor planning on my part – and when I got home I realized that I had lost my charger cord somewhere during the trip to Salt Lake, I suppose.  So you can imagine that I was beside myself not being able to upload my photos from the day.  I immediately ordered another cord, but hated the waiting.

I was cleaning out a drawer in the office the other day and lo and behold I found in my stash of old cords that no one knows what they once belonged to, one that was a perfect match!  Yee haw!  I uploaded as soon as the battery was charged.  I have only had time to process a few of the photos, but was eager to try out a Lightroom preset that I developed after the trip to Salt Lake and used it to process what few florals I had gotten before the battery died.  Here are the results.  I think that this preset is a keeper!  What do you think?
